Our
Story
I grew up loving animals and as a child I would always get in trouble with my mum for wandering over to fuss any dog I saw in the street or tied up outside a shop, which happened a lot in the 70s! Incredibly, I never seemed to get snapped at and just enjoyed getting doggy cuddles - which just fuelled my joy at spending time with these amazing creatures. I studied English Literature and Psychology at University and at the age of 22 I took a job at the National Animal Welfare Trust working as a humble kennel-assistant dealing with problem dogs. I enjoyed it so much I then went on to work for the Dog’s Trust (back when it was still called The National Canine Defence League). I have worked in Fundraising, PR, Sales and Customer Service, roles which have help so much to have a greater understanding of teaching people which is so important for any dog trainer. I rehabilitated many different rescue dogs of my own whilst also volunteering at rescue centres in my spare time but I soon realised I should turn my beloved hobby into a career. It was at this point that I underwent my training & qualifications with the College of Pet Animal Studies and after a few years gaining vital experience working part time as a dog trainer & behaviourist I set up my business in January 2006.
Since then the company has grown from a solo enterprise based in Weymouth to an amazing ever-growing team covering many counties. I have had the privilege of training each of my team members personally as I run the NBDT Academy which is how my trainers have joined the team and learned the unique skills needed in this highly specialised industry.
